FAQs

What is Counselling?
Counselling offers you a safe, confidential place with a qualified professional where you can make positive changes to your life.

How do I know when it is time to get support?
I would encourage people to access counselling when they have a desire to make a real change.

I feel nervous and unsure about therapy – should I still contact you?
People often feel nervous about therapy however I usually find that you will feel a lot more comfortable about the process after your first session. If you want your life to change for the better please call me for a free 15 minute telephone consultation  to assess if it will be helpful for you.

Are you are qualified counsellor?
Yes I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor, NHS IAPT counsellor and member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. I also have a degree in Management from Manchester University and am an Approved Therapist for Anxiety UK.

How many sessions will I need?
There is no set answer for this. Some people want to deal with a specific issue only and we can agree on a fixed number of sessions, the average being 6. Other people prefer open ended counselling. This means we can work at a deeper level to explore what is troubling you. Periodically, we will review how counselling is helping and if further sessions are required. Clients starting on a fixed number of sessions will have the opportunity to continue for longer if they want to.

How long will it take to get an appointment?
I will try to see you as soon as you would like. I work until 9pm during the week to accommodate most people. Availability can be discussed when you contact me.

How long will it take for me to feel better?
This is a common question and the answer varies for each individual. There are so many factors to consider depending on the nature of the issues and how motivated you are to explore them. We will set goals between us during the process and monitor them so that your needs are met. You could benefit from changes quite quickly but obviously there is no guarantee of this.

Will everything I say be kept confidential?
I am committed to maintaining confidentiality and adhere to the BACP’s Ethical Framework.

Do you provide telephone or video counselling as well as face to face?
Yes I provide face to face, video and telephone counselling.

Where can I park?
Free parking is available to the rear of the building.

Where are you based?
I work in the Labrynth Business Centre, 45 Middle Hillgate, Stockport, SK1 3DG.

How do I pay?
I charge individuals £55 per 50 minutes for face to face, video or telephone counselling and £65 per session for couples. You can pay weekly before each session by cash, cheque or bank transfer. Please note I have a 48 hour cancellation policy and any late cancellation will be chargeable at the full session cost.
